- Indian railways are the largest network of rail tracks in the world. Most of these wooden sleepers are made of sal (shorea robusta). This wood has a special characteristic that is naturally anti termite. Despite endless cracks it will not break. For almost a century it has faced the scorching heat and monsoonal rains of India. For the past few years the government of India has made them obsolete by replacing them with concrete sleepers.
- We at Xcella have recycled them for functional decor products. Its rustic looks are supported by history, and its age accentuates its beauty.
